Data Mining is growing in importance to Marketing. Using the interpretation of user-profiles (age, sex, address, occupation, free-time activities, number and type of acquired products and services, surfing habits, etc;) extremely effective advertising strategies may be developed and market segments determined (see Targeting). However, in many companies the enthusiasm for data collection is growing at an alarming rate(often without an meaningful evaluation of the data) when one considers privacy rights.
